Hawick 32-24 Watsonians
Hawick 32 - 24 Watsonians
Tennent's Premiership · 8 · Saturday, 24 October 2026
Match Report
The atmosphere at Mansfield Park reached a fever pitch this Saturday as the Greens hosted a relentless Watsonians side in a Premiership clash that lived up to its high-stakes billing. From the opening whistle, Hawick played with a ferocious intensity, pinning the visitors back with a series of probing kicks and aggressive defensive line speed. Watsonians responded with their characteristic composure, looking to recycle possession through their mobile forward pack, but the home side looked hungrier, consistently forcing turnovers at the breakdown and capitalizing on any lapse in concentration from the Edinburgh men.
The turning point arrived midway through the second half, when Hawick’s backline found their rhythm, shifting the ball wide with clinical precision to pierce the visiting defense. A sensational individual effort from the home fly-half, who sidestepped three defenders to touch down under the posts, swung the momentum decisively in favor of the hosts. While Watsonians fought back valiantly with two late tries to narrow the deficit, the Hawick pack held firm in the dying minutes, absorbing wave after wave of pressure to secure a hard-fought victory that sparked jubilant scenes among the home faithful.
This result serves as a massive statement of intent for Hawick, cementing their position as serious title contenders and proving that they have the tactical discipline to close out tight games against top-tier opposition. For Watsonians, it is a frustrating setback that will surely prompt a period of reflection regarding their defensive structure during transition play. As the league table tightens, both sides must now regroup, though the momentum clearly sits with the Greens as they look to build on this exhilarating performance in the weeks ahead.
